NYRA Reverses Jerry Hollendorfer Decision

June 30, 2019

With little to no explanation, NYRA has reversed their earlier decision to give stalls and allow entries from Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Hollendorfer was banned without any formal explanation by the Stronach Group tracks, reportedly as a result of him having 4 of the 30 fatal breakdowns at the recently concluded Santa Anita meet. Banning without any due process is rare  but does happen on occasion. Banning with no explanation provided is rarer still. Los Alamitos is accepting entries from Hollendorfer and has provided him stalls at the facility. Del Mar has not taken an “official” position yet.

Jerry Hollendorfer has a string in New York with assistant trainer Don Chatlos, a Breeders’ Cup winning trainer with Singletary in the turf mile back at Lone Star Park. Don is assuming lead role with Hollendorfer’s New York string and will be allowed to race and maintain stalls. The barn will have stalls and be racing at the upcoming Saratoga meet.
