Wings of Eagles Takes Investec Derby

June 3, 2017

Aidan O’Brien was expected to be very tough to beat in The Investec Derby at Epsom Downs, but the horse most people expected to win for him was Cliffs of Moher ridden by Ryan Moore. Instead it was Wings of Eagles who ran down both Cliffs of Moher and Cracksman late.

Wings of Eagles paid $56.50.

Wings of Eagles broke from the far wide slot(18) under P. Beggy, and came from far back with a strong late burst to overtake his stablemate Cliffs of Moher nearing the wire. Cracksman, trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori finished third after making a move towards the lead in the last 3/16ths of a mile. All three horses ran big races.

@jonathanstettin  Morning Jonathan, I just read your Piece on its not a Santa Anita thing IT WAS OUTSTANDING. I have been playing horses for 42 yrs since my father 1st brought me to Washington Park. I could not agree with you more. There must be 1 governing board and a commissioner.
